Do you love art but consider yourself to be a less than great artist?  Do you want to mix art with journaling?  If you can answer “Yes!” to any of these questions\, this workshop is for you! \nWhat will we do?  Using scissors\, pre-cut mat boards\, glue sticks and abundant images\, your hands and heart will move together as you create two 5”X 8” cards.  Following the simple SoulCollage® directions\, you will play with fragments of images\, fitting them together in surprising ways.  The images that you select—or those images that select you—will come straight from your soul\, bypassing your mind and yielding powerful insights.  You will have permission to make cards in your own way\, and permission to share your cards within a safe and welcoming community. \nWhat do I need to bring?  If you have some favorite images that you have been saving\, bring those.  Images can come from magazines\, old books\, photos\, greeting cards\, post cards\, or other sources.  Mat boards\, glue sticks\, pens\, paper and lots of images will be provided in the cost of the workshop.  If you have a good pair of scissors\, please bring those.  There will also be some scissors available at the workshop. \nWho is leading it?  Deborah Lindeen is a psychotherapist\, art therapist and spiritual director in private practice in Houston.  She is a certified SoulCollage® facilitator. Her passion is in helping people to show up in life as their very best Self\, that Self that is able to be connected\, compassionate\, creative\, and courageous.  By blending insights from psychology\, art\, and spirituality\, Deborah will guide you in this rich experience of self-discovery.

SUMMARY:Re-IMAGE-ING MARY MAGDALENE ART SHOW
DESCRIPTION:This July Brigid’s Place welcomes artists from around the world to Re-IMAGE Mary Magdalene and create original works of art that portray the woman who was a beloved friend to Jesus\, and a woman capable of turning “hearts toward the good.” For too many centuries the story of Mary Magdalene has been incorrectly told\, painting her as a penitent sinner. The landmark show is part of Brigid’s Place’s month-long The Many Faces of Mary Magdalene Festival dedicated to reshaping the Magdalene’s legacy. Mary Magdalene was a woman like so many women today. She was a woman of devotion\, love\, bravery\, wisdom\, and power. Re-IMAGE-ing Mary Magdalene is a remarkable opportunity to experience through art that in Mary Magdalene’s story\, we can also find our own story. \nJoin Brigid’s Place for a profoundly moving showcase of twenty-four varied artists working in different mediums this July. The opening reception will be held at the Cloister Gallery on Friday Evening July 10\, 2015 from 6-8pm. There will be brief remarks from participating artists\, information about the life of Mary Magdalene\, the festival\, and refreshments for guests. \n“Not Your Mama’s Pearls” \nArt Reception\nThe Cloister Gallery\, Christ Church Cathedral\nJuly 10\, 2015 6-8pm \n1117 Texas Ave. \nHouston\, TX 77002\nAttire: Vintage Accessories and Pearls\nFree Parking Available in San Jacinto St. Garage  \n

The fellowship and community of cooking and sharing a meal is an age old practice of faith\, joy\, and family\, a labor of love and art. \nWith Special Guest Abbie Preston\nAbbie will share her story of the challenges in creating a successful career with her passion for art.  Abbie’s imaginative pottery will inspire you to create a Beautiful Table of your own. \nOur experience will be curated by artist\, Lanecia Rouse-Tinsley. \n“Just like our bodies hunger for food and thirst for water\, we long to create and encounter beauty from within and without.”  \nLearn a new recipe\, make new friends and join in the conversation\, around Our Beautiful Table.\nThis is a fundraiser sponsored by Monica Pope for BrigidsPlace.org.

This will be an evening full of prose\, photography\, music\, wonder\, delight\, depth\, truth\, love\, and the story of Mary Magdalene. We are all a part of Mary Magdalene’s story and because this is true we can all share our own stories together. To help us come to know Mary Magdalene and one another in beautiful ways\, our amazing friends will be leading us in an evening of artful storytelling. This is going to be a fabulous night…we sure hope to see your fabulous self there too! \nWe will have food\, drinks\, stories\, music\, and we’re even rolling out the valet service for you…so come on over and share your story with us as we get ready for our Mary Magdalene Festival in July! This is gonna be great! \n\nKatherine Center\nFeatured StoryTeller \nKatherine Center is the author of five bittersweet novels about love and family\, including The Lost Husband and The Bright Side of Disaster. Her books and essays have appeared in many publications including Redbook\, InStyle\, People\, and USA Today\, among others. Bookpage named Katherine a new writer to watch\, The Houston Press named her a Top Ten writer in the city\, and Instant Pictures recently optioned her The Lost Husband for a movie. \nKatherine has just released her latest book\, Happiness for Beginners\, which has already gone back for its second printing. She is especially interested in how stories impact our lives which makes her a wonderful choice as one our featured story-tellers! We are thrilled to have Katherine join us. \n\nKaren Walrond\nFeatured StoryTeller \nKaren Walrond is an author and photo essayist. Karen’s bestselling book\, The Beauty of Different\, is a chronicle of imagery and portraiture\, combined with written essays and observations on the concept that what makes us different makes us beautiful — and may even be the source of our superpowers. \nA sought-after keynote and TEDx speaker\, Karen has spoken around the United States and abroad on the topic of thriving\, through leadership development\, the magic of creativity\, the valuing of cultural and racial diversity\, and the power of social media. She is also a proud and “awestruck” member of the ONE Girls Women and Advisory Board and part of the ONE Campaign. We welcome with joy Karen to celebrate our stories! \n\nAnita Kruse\nFeatured Musician \nPianist and Composer Anita Kruse is described as “a rare blend of visionary artist and powerfully inspired performer.” A classically trained pianist\, Anita began writing her own music while completing a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance with Theodore Lettvin at the University of Michigan. \nAfter arranging and producing her first two CDs “All We Have is Now” and “Light\,” Anita recorded five more with arranger/producer Robbie Parrish including “The Magdalene Mystique” and “Dreaming Out to Sea” In March of 2006\, Anita became the founder and Executive Director of Purple Songs Can Fly\, a non-profit dedicated to providing a creative musical outlet for children at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. We are delighted to have her as our special featured musician for the evening! \n\nRev. Mary Gracely\nHeavenly Hostess \nMary Gracely started her community service career by volunteering at her children’s schools and expanded as they grew older. She has chaired various fundraising events and served on committees for Texas Children’s Hospital\, Houston Children’s Charity\, Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America\, Pink Ribbons Project\, March of Dimes\, Easter Seals\, Houston Hospice and The Mission of Yahweh to name a few. Her favorite sharing moment comes when she and her husband\, Tony\, host events in their home\, hoping that highlighting a particular charitable organization might spark interest in attendees and activate a stronger level of community involvement. Mary has said that her goal is “to be of service and a light to the world.” Recently\, she was ordained as Reverend Mary Gracely of One Spirit Interfaith Seminary.
