SUMMARY:"Ink & Honey" Women's Fall Group
DESCRIPTION:Ink and Honey is the story of a sacred journey through the medieval French countryside with the sisters of Belle Cœur\, a community of radically independent healers\, visionaries\, mystics and artisans who live by their wits and their prayers. Goscelin\, the dedicated scribe\, records her sisterhood’s stories\, visions and prophecies in her community’s journal while surrounded by holy madness\, suspicion and the imminent threat of death at the stake. The sisters guard a life-threatening secret as they navigate spiritual terrain where faith and creative passion forge the way to labyrinths and cathedrals\, hidden rooms and honey drenched hives. \n. \n \n“Ink and Honey” is alive with women’s ancient wisdom and spiritual practices. We began our journey together this Spring with a study of “Ink and Honey.” This Fall we will dive into the heart of Belle Coeur Spirituality as we read and study “The Way of Belle Coeur- A Woman’s Vade Mecum” Our study will include guided discussion and experiential exercises to inform our lives. Led by The Reverend Martha Frances and Mary Ann Matthys\, MA\, CSD \nTHURSDAYS\, 15\, 22\, & 29 Sept; 6\, 20 & 27 October 2016 \nMellinger Room of Christ Church Cathedral at 1117 Texas Ave\nFree parking across San Jacinto in the Cathedral parking garage. \nClass Cost is $60.00 \nFor questions and to register please call Rev. Martha Frances at 713-203-2927. \n\n\nThe Rev. Martha Frances is a woman in process\, an Episcopal priest\, trained spiritual director\, religious educator\, writer\, musician\, ecumenist\, grandmother\, feminist\, & sometime activist.  I am on the Board of Brigid’s Place at Christ Church Cathedral & liaison & frequent teacher at Brigid’s Hope\, a reentry program for women who have experienced incarceration.  I am a  Companion of the Rivendell Community\, an Episcopal religious community whose members live out our vocation in our daily lives\, & an Associate with the Order of St. Helena\, an Episcopal Religious Order for women. \nMy ministry has included combining of two congregations to form a multi-ethnic one\, leading a mission church for people who are homeless & in transition\, and serving in a bi-lingual congregation.  I have facilitated various interactive classes on effective living\, feminine spirituality\, meditation\, & addiction & recovery.  Prior to my priestly ministry\, I taught secondary public school & at college & university level. \nI love being a grandmother\, traveling as widely as possible\, interacting with groups\, reading\, knitting\, & pursuing creative expressions. \nWomen’s spiritual & personal growth is one of my passions\, so I welcome the opportunity to explore this novel about 13th Century Beguines to learn how it parallels with 21st Century women’s lives & values.  Won’t you join us? \nFaithfully\, Martha Frances+\, M. Div. \nBA & MA in English & music\, University of North Texas & University of Houston\nM. Religious Education\, University of St. Thomas\nM. Divinity\, Perkins School of Theology\, SMU\nCertification in Anglican Studies\, Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest\nCertification in Spiritual Direction\, The Cenacle \n\n\nI am Mary Ann Matthys\, MA\, CSD \nI am an Artist\, Certified Spiritual Director\, and Retreat Facilitator who utilizes the creative process as an invitation to deeper communion and connection with God. \nI am a Color of Woman Teacher and Intentional Creativity Coach.  This amazing creative process offers a profound way to search your soul and create gorgeous visual prayers. \nI am a person who values life in all its forms. I love nature and feel especially close to God when I am in natural settings.  I value relationships. For me\, it is important to engage others with understanding\, knowing that every individual has inherent value and self worth.  Being a Sister of Belle Coeur has been the most incredible journey of bliss\, joy and mutual respect with other women who are on the journey of living out their faith each day.  As a Sister of Belle Coeur my personal faith journey has deepened through Sisterhood\, Service to my Beloveds\, Sacrament and Sacred Life Arts which for me is Intentional Creativity. \nIn the core of my being\, I am a person who seeks to live into her faith day-by-day\, moment-by-moment. I am a creative individual who finds the creative process a wonderful way to consecrate my life to God. \nMy personal website www.consecratetheday.com offers invitations to deeper communion with God through Creativity and other Spiritual Practices.  I hope this website will be sustenance for your spiritual journey.  Take what resonates with your soul and discard what you do not need or want. \nIt is my sincere hope that you will find the joy that comes in consecrating each day\, each moment to God. \nBlessings always! \nMary Ann Matthys\nSister of Belle Coeur \nBachelor of Science\, University of Texas\nStudied @ Glassell School of Art\nMasters Degree in Humanities\, University of Houston\, Clear Lake\nCertified Spiritual Director\, Perkins School of Theology\, SMU\nColor of Woman Teacher and Intentional Creativity Coach 2014
