SUMMARY:Anam Cara - Women's Christmas
DESCRIPTION:January 6\, 2020 – Women’s Christmas\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere is a custom\, rooted in Ireland\, of celebrating Epiphany (January 6\, which brings the Christmas season to a close) as Women’s Christmas. It originated as a day when the women\, who often carried the domestic responsibilities all year\, took Epiphany as an occasion to celebrate together at the end of the holidays\, leaving hearth and home to the men for a few hours. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWomen’s Christmas offers a timely opportunity to pause and step back from whatever has kept you busy and hurried in the past weeks or months. As the Christmas season comes to a close\, this is an occasion both to celebrate with friends and also to spend time in reflection before diving into the responsibilities of this new year.\n                    –Jan L. Richardson\, author\, In the Sanctuary of Women \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnam Cara\nAn Ongoing Women’s Group of Brigid’s Place\, Houston\nWe meet at Christ Church Cathedral \non the 1st Monday evening of Each Month.\nJoin us as we Celebrate Women’s Spirituality in this Ongoing Group of Brigid’s Place. \nThis is a time to meet one another and to learn what it means to be a soul friend.  We are Women joining together\, opening our hearts to one another\, awakening our inner lights and letting the beauty of our soul flow together on this journey called Life. \nJohn O’Donohue describes an AnamCara in this way … \n“Anam is the Gaelic word for soul and cara is the word for friend.  So anam cara is the Celtic word for “soul friend”.  With an anam cara you can share your innermost self\, your mind and your heart.  This friendship is an act of recognition and belonging.  When you have an anam cara\, your friendship cuts across all convention\, morality\, and category.  You are joined in an ancient and eternal way with the “friend of your soul.”  The Celtic understanding did not set limitations of space or time on the soul.  This art of belonging awakens and fosters a deep and special companionship.” \nThis ongoing circle of women will enjoy friendship and grow together spiritually through book studies\, art making\, and the sharing of sacred times together. \nWomen’s Group Schedule: \nFirst Monday evening of each Month\, 6:30 to 8:30 (unless the first Monday falls on a holiday\, in which case the meeting will be held on an alternate date to be announced) \nMcGehee Room of Christ Church Cathedral at 1117 Texas Ave\nFree parking across San Jacinto in the Cathedral parking garage. \n  \nThere is no charge for this ongoing group\, but please register so we have an idea of the number of participants to expect. \n[button link=”https://brigidsplace.ejoinme.org/MyPages/AnamCaraOngoingWomensGroupofBrigidsPlace/tabid/854351/Default.aspx” color=”darkgreen” size=”medium” stretch=”” type=”” shape=”” target=”_blank” title=”” gradient_colors=”|” gradient_hover_colors=”|” accent_color=”#dd9933″ accent_hover_color=”” bevel_color=”” border_width=”1px” icon=”” icon_divider=”yes” icon_position=”left” modal=”” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ animation_offset=”” alignment=”left” class=”” id=””]REGISTER NOW[/button]

It figures largely in Celtic lore and art\, along with St. Brigid\, our namesake. Please join us as we celebrate the work of Brigid’s Place and honor its founder\, the Rev. Betty Adam\, while sharing our vision for “widening the circle” of our community. \nFor over 20 years\, the women of Brigid’s Place have been dedicated to the mission of providing education\, dialogue\, and celebration to foster women’s spiritual and personal transformation. \nIn furtherance of that mission\, they envisioned and embodied a vibrant community of women creating an open place of hope and spirituality\, and actively seeking to encourage change\, nourish souls\, and inspire and empower. \nEarlier this year\, the Brigid’s Place board hosted the 20th Anniversary luncheon.  In preparing for and hosting this event\, board members were reminded of the meaningful impact Brigid’s Place has had in helping women nurture and grow their spirituality. \nThe question naturally arose – how can we continue to do this\, help women nurture and grow their spiritually\, for the next 20 years and beyond. In what ways are we living into our vision and thus\, fully living into our mission. \nWe would like to ask you to join us in exploring these questions; and\, to take an active role in helping to shape and re-vision Brigid’s Place so that we continue to be that vibrant community so many have found meaningful\, nurturing and empowering. \nPlease add your name to our sign-up sheet by clicking the ‘register now’ link below and signify your willingness to take part in the re-visioning charrettes.  Please use the provided signup form to indicate your preference from the below times.  We will contact you soon to make sure you are included in one of these meetings – so your input can be heard. \nSaturday\, April 6             10:00am – 12:00pm \nSunday\, April 7            12:00pm – 2:00pm \nSunday\, April 7            2:30pm – 4:30pm \nTuesday\, April 9             7:00pm – 9:00pm \n  \n[button link=”https://brigidsplace.ejoinme.org/Charrettes” color=”custom” size=”large” stretch=”no” type=”flat” shape=”round” target=”_blank” title=”” gradient_colors=”#12bc00|#12bc00″ gradient_hover_colors=”#bf9d74|#bf9d74″ accent_color=”#ffffff” accent_hover_color=”#fff” bevel_color=”” border_width=”0px” icon=”” icon_position=”left” icon_divider=”no” modal=”” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”1″ alignment=”” class=”” id=””]Register Now[/button] \nor \nemail brigidsplace@brigidsplace.org and let us know what date you would like to attend and give your feedback. \n
