Community Outreach Brigid's Relief: Transitional Housing for Katrina Evacuees Brigid's Place has created a relief fund to provide transitional housing for women with children left homeless by Katrina. We are in the process of furnishing apartments in the Houston area and bringing families from the Astrodome to these apartments. We currently have seven apartments in the FM 1960 area that are homes for a total of thirty-three people and are hoping to add more. We urgently need your support. Mail your checks made out to Brigid's Place to: Brigid's Place, 1117 Texas Ave, Houston, TX 77002. Write Brigid's Relief Fund on the memo section of the check. All contributions are tax deductible. Brigid's Place would like to thank Mara Henderson who took the initiative to rent the apartments and mobilize our volunteers. If you would like to volunteer to help us call Mara at 281-989-8839 or email her at mhenderson@imagitekltd.com. Read more about us in the November 2005 issue of Envy Magazine. We were also on the PBS show Our Community Responds in October 2005. The Northeast Young Judaea has graciously sent us twenty-nine boxes of supplies for our families. These include toiletries, blankets, towels, brand new tee shirts, and plenty of gently used clothing. We are very touched by the support of our friends from the Northeast. We would also like to thank the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers who have graciously offered to help us furnish our evacuees apartments. They are being assisted by Louis Shanks Furniture and student volunteers from The Art Institute of Houston. For more information email Sheryl. |
